ENERGY SAVING

PRODUCTS

Listed below are products that I have tested out in my own home and that I know are making a difference to my carbon footprint and my bills.  If you know of any products that you think I should try, let me know and I'll give it a go.  If you really want to push the boat and you are looking to install a more substantial renewable energy source, the government is now offering grants to help you fund your project.  Click here to find out more.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR LESS THAN £50

ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHTBULBS

Help! The earth is warming up because of all that CO2 people are pumping in the atmosphere. But if the ice caps melt and the sea rises, where are we penguins going to live? Help save us. Save energy. And save money too. By replacing your conventional light bulbs with the new Mini-Lynx Fast-Start bulb. Find out more about energy saving light bulbs.

JML TUMBLE DRYER BALLS

IF YOU CAN'T BEAR STIFF JEANS AND TOWELS, these are fab!!!

Dryer Balls lift and separate laundry allowing hot air to flow more efficiently, thus aiding the drying process.

Reduce drying time by up to 25%.

Specially designed to physically soften your laundry without the introduction of toxic chemicals.

Reduces creases and wrinkles.

Easy to use - place the JML Dryer Balls in the tumble dryer and operate the machine at the usual setting for your fabrics.

Thermostatic Radiator Valve

These are a must have as far as I'm concerned.

They enable you to control the amount of heat going through your radiators so they don't have to be going full blast all the time.  They also enable you to shut the heat off in rooms you rarely use.

PLUG-IN TIMER

If like me you like a lamp on in the house when you are out, these are great.  You can set anything that goes into a plug socket to come on and go off when you choose.  I have one on the TV and on a table lamp.

DOOR CURTAIN

I have a double glazed door and yet I still feel a terrible draft during the winter.

A door curtain is the perfect solution, if you buy a purpose made one it folds back

quite flat so it doesn't cause an obstruction when you push it back.

You can get them from Ebay for around £20 - £30.

Of course there are lots more ways to save energy, these are just a few basic low cost changes that have made a big difference to the warmth and fuel costs in my own home.
